Family Preservation

“If we are not making every effort to work with at-risk families and prevent separation when possible, we are doing orphan care wrong.”

Why?

Once a child enters the protection system, their life gets a whole lot more complicated. Their future lies in the hands of an overwhelmed system, their name - one of thousands on caseworker/judge’s desk. Aside from that, they (as well as the rest of the family) will have already suffered immeasurable loss. In an instant, they have lost everything they have ever known - their room, their routine, their belongings, and most devastatingly, their family. If this scenario can be avoided, it has to be. With that mentality, our team of highly trained professionals works on the FRONT END of this issue, providing essential resources and accountability to families who are at risk of separation.

Global de-institutionalization is neither possible nor sustainable if we are not strengthening and empowering vulnerable families and communities.

Did you know that poverty is one of the leading reasons that children all over the world are placed in residential care?

Guatemala is no exception. Over two thirds of the population of about 16 million lives on less than $2 USD/day, according to the World Food Program.
