Melanie first visited Huehuetenango on a short-term mission trip in 2012, and soon after was telling people that she would live there one day. She studied Psychology, Magazine Journalism, and Spanish at the University of Georgia, and moved to Huehue immediately after graduation to begin teaching first and second grade at the School of Hope. That first year, Melanie also acted as an occasional caretaker for and co-led a Bible study for teenage girls at the local orphanage.
Now, Melanie is Story’s Director of Development. She mentors some of the young adults in our programs, writes website content, and does just about whatever else anyone throws her way. Melanie’s favorite things include sarcasm, her little brother, tabletop games, and clear nights when you can see the stars. Her biggest prayer is that all the teen girls she’s worked with will find permanent, loving families before they age out of the system.
